Forest Legacy Program

The USDA Forest Legacy Program works with landowners and state agencies to preserve forests, water resources and other environmentally important natural resources. Conservation easements are legally binding agreements that transfer a negotiated set of property rights from one party to another, without removing the property from private ownership.

When you enter into a conservation easement, you help the Forest Legacy Program and the NJ Division of Forestry protect “working forests,” which provide habitat, forest products, opportunities for recreation and other public benefits.
