DAILY PROGRAMS

11:00am – Beach Walk
Search for beach treasures as you walk with a naturalist. Learn about animals and plants that have adapted to this ever changing environment. All ages welcome!

1:00pm – Seine the Bay
A seine is a large net that is used to catch fish and other aquatic animals. Walk to Barnegat Bay and join us as we seine. All ages welcome! Water shoes (no flip flops) are required to pull the seine.

2:00pm – Fish Tank Feeding Frenzy
Fish and other aquatic animals that are caught on our seining tour are used to stock the fish thanks. Learn bout the fascinating food web that makes Barnegat Bay an extremely valuable estuary. All ages welcome!
Note: Fish Tank Feeding Frenzy is ADA accessible

Beginners Surf Fishing Clinics
8:00am – 2:00pm
Fee: Park Admission
All equipment supplied
Island Beach State Park Nature Center
Minimum age of 10, minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Sponsor: Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament & Island Beach State Park.
Learn the basics of this fascinating sport. The clinic is for beginners that want to learn the techniques for successful surf fishing. Dress for being in the surf!

July 6, 13, 20, 27 & August 3, 10, 17, 24
Sedge Island Kayak Tours
9:00am – 12:00pm
Fee: Park Admission
All equipment is supplied
Minimum age of 14, minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Explore the Sedge Islands by two-person kayaks. View an amazing variety of birds, dig for clams, help pull in a seine and learn about this dynamic area that is New Jersey’s first marine conservation zone. All equipment is provided. Paddlers need boat experience and be at least 14 yrs of age. Water shoes required. No flip flops.

July 8, 22, 29 & August 12, 19
Birding By Kayak
8:00am – 11:00am
$25.00 Tour Charge
* No Park Admission Fee
Minimum age of 14 – minors must be accompanied by an adult
All equipment except binoculars is supplied. Enjoy birding as you paddle the Sedge Islands in our two-person kayaks. This tour is for bird enthusiasts who are at least 14 yrs of age.

July 10, 17, 24, 31 & August 7, 14, 21
Fishing By Kayak
7:00am – 10:00am
Fee: Park Admission
Explore fishing in and around the Sedge islands by kayak. This is an intermediate level course designed for anglers with fishing experience. Must be at least 14 years of age. Call the Nature Center to register 732-793-1698.

July 10, 17, 24, 31 & August 7, 14, 21
Spizzle Creek Kayak Excursion
8:00am – 11:00am
Fee: Park Admission. All equipment supplied
Minimum age of 14 – minors must be accompanied by an adult
Kayak with us as we head north to Spizzle Creek in the Sedge Islands. This abbreviated tour gives you a glimpse of this fascinating area. Paddlers need boat experience and be at least 14 yrs of age. Water shoes required. No flip flops

July 11, 25 & August 1, 15
Junior Naturalist Program
9:00 am – 1:30 pm
Age 10 – 13
Fee: Park Admission
Work with a naturalist as you learn about a barrier beach. Inquisitive and exploring minds will enjoy learning about animal life and the unique characteristics of Island Beach. This program will be held in the Forked River Coast Guard Station (adjacent to the Interpretive Center).

July 26, August 30 and September 27
A Taste of Island Beach
10:00 am to 11:30 am
Fee: Park Admission
Forked River Interpretive Center
Walk with a naturalist as you discover the amazing history and special characteristics of plants.
