Geocaching is a high tech update on the olld fashioned scavenger hunt game
utilizing GPS technology to locate objects hidden among the
forests, fields, and trails of the state park. Participants will learn how to obtain
information and hints from the Geocaching.com website, on the location of severtal
dozen geocache sites. They will then use handheld GPs devices to go out and find as
many caches as possible. Once a cache is found, Participants typically will sign in on the log
contained within and then takr an object from the cache box afte leaving a trinket for
subsequent geocachers. Participant should bring a pochett full of trinkets to exchange
when they locate the caches. Trinkets can include small toys and balls, plastic jewelry, pens,
pencils, scratch pads, patches, action figures, coins, etc. A limited number of GPS
navigation devices will be made available to participants. Bring your own handheld GPS device
if you have one.

Join us for a 2.5-mile walk around the cedar bog. (If snow or ice conditions make it inaccessible, we’ll take a shorter walk around portions of the historic day use area and Lake Marcia). Either way, we’ll focus on the evergreens that grow here and learn how they have adapted to survive harsh environments, and we’ll also keep a lookout for bright spots of festive red as we roam. Adults/Children ages 8 and up. Meet at the entrance to the Cedar Swamp Trail (at the gate at the far end of the Cedar Swamp Picnic Area). If this area is inaccessible due to snow or ice, meet in the beach/Ski Center parking lot for an alternate route.
